When you’re in a place surrounded by the sea like Phuket, it’s rational that your dining choice must be fresh seafood. There are of course several restaurants to enjoy all menu varieties. Here we list some of our favorite places.
A famous restaurant, Kan Eang (in Thai means “friendly”) has 2 branches in Phuket that are located not so far apart on Chalong bay. Many people seem to know Kan Eang 1 better, since there is a big cutout at “Ha Yaek Chalong,” or Chalong 5-junction circle. So Kan Eang 1 is normally more crowded. We prefer Kan Eang 2, a quieter place to relax.
In Thailand (and some other countries), Sep 26 - Oct 6, 2011 is a special period called "Nine Emperor God Festival,", originated from the Chinese. In Thai we simply call it the "Je Festival" (เทศกาลเจ), or simply "Gin Je," (to eat Je food). One can read all the historic details from wiki. The essence we want to mention is, during these 10 days many people abstain from eating meat, poultry, seafood, and dairy products. Strictly speaking, there's some slight difference from vegetarian diet because some vegetables are also prohibited as well (for example, garlic and onion).
